Winton House contributes to Petersfield being named the best place to live in South East England 2025
“They say it takes a village to raise a child but in this happy corner of Hampshire, a whisker from the West Sussex border, you have a whole market town. Petersfield is family, with excellent schools.
Sports include cricket, football, hockey, golf and rugby, plus there’s the excellent Petersfield Open Air Pool, which has converted many a reluctant bather and is run by a friendly team of trustees, staff and volunteers. While the popular spring, summer and Christmas community festivals are taking a break this year, Petersfield Theatre Group, Winton Players and Petersfield Youth Theatre all put on regular productions.
Locals tune into Shine Radio so they don’t miss anything in the “Petersphere”; volunteers from the community, including schoolchildren, are invited to do guest reports.
Here you can age gracefully with an active U3A that organises trips and regular talks on more than 60 subjects, from supercomputing to impressionism. There are games afternoons and an exercise group for those living with dementia at Winton House, which also has a dementia-friendly café run by volunteers.
Petersfield residents care deeply about the environment — they live in a national park, after all. Petersfield Climate Action network (Pecan) is one of several local environmental charities and runs projects such as a home retrofit advice service and an annual tree-planting programme.”
